Kosher Certified Mediterranean Café in Manhattan
Effy’s Café is a kosher Mediterranean café serving Manhattan from three locations, each certified kosher under IKC supervision. Since 2002, Effy’s has served a scratch-made, meatless menu with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern influences. There’s no chicken, beef, or other meat, although the menu includes fish and dairy, along with plenty of vegetarian and vegan choices.
Kosher Certified at All Three Manhattan Locations
Effy’s has three cafés across Manhattan. All three locations are currently identified by Effy’s as IKC kosher-certified, so guests can choose the café that works best for their part of the city.
Our Upper East Side café is located at 1688 York Avenue in Yorkville, between 88th and 89th Streets. It serves the full Effy’s meatless Mediterranean menu for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and later meals, with vegetarian, vegan, dairy, and fish dishes available.
Effy’s original Upper West Side café is at 104 W 96th Street, close to Broadway and Central Park. This location has been part of the Upper West Side since 2002 and serves the full all-day menu from a kosher-supervised kitchen.
At 552 Columbus Avenue, Effy’s offers a lighter café-and-patisserie format. The location serves coffee, pastries, breakfast, brunch, and lunch options from a meatless kosher café kitchen. It has a more focused selection than the full-menu York Avenue and W 96th Street cafés.
What Kosher Dairy Means at Effy’s
Effy’s operates as a kosher dairy restaurant. That doesn’t mean every dish contains dairy, and it doesn’t mean the menu is entirely vegetarian.
The kitchen is meatless, with no chicken, beef, or other meat prepared or served. However, Effy’s does serve fish and dairy products. Guests can also find a range of vegetarian and vegan dishes across the menu.
Kosher certification involves more than removing meat from a menu. Ingredients, food preparation, and kitchen practices must meet kosher requirements under the relevant supervision.
100% Meatless – What That Means for You
At Effy’s, 100% meatless means we don’t prepare chicken, beef, or other meat in the kitchen. Fish remains part of the menu, including dishes made with salmon, tilapia, tuna, and other fish depending on current availability.
That distinction matters for guests searching for a kosher vegetarian café in NYC. Effy’s offers many vegetarian and plant-based choices, but the overall menu isn’t fully vegetarian because it serves fish.
For a specific dietary requirement, check the ingredients of the dish before ordering.
What IKC Certification Covers
Effy’s identifies its cafés as certified under the International Kosher Council (IKC), an Orthodox kosher certifying organization.
Kosher certification applies to how food is sourced and prepared, not simply whether a dish contains meat or dairy. Effy’s uses IKC supervision as the basis for the kosher status of its cafés.
Guests with a specific level of observance or questions about a particular product should check the latest location-level certification before dining.
Our Certification Documents & Supervision
Effy’s provides kosher information at the location level so guests can check the café they plan to visit.
Because kosher certificates are issued for defined periods and may be renewed or updated, it’s best to review the latest document or contact the café directly when a specific certification detail matters to you.
Mediterranean Favorites – Breakfast & Lunch
Kosher dining at Effy’s covers far more than one style of meal. Our Mediterranean menu moves from breakfast and brunch into sandwiches, wraps, salads, starters, and fish entrées, with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flavors throughout.
Breakfast Staples
Shakshuka is one of the best-known breakfast choices, served with hummus and pita. The Middle Eastern Breakfast pairs eggs with hummus, beet salad, labneh, feta, house salad, and pita.
The menu also includes omelets with combinations such as spinach, feta, goat cheese, or vegetables. For something sweeter, the menu includes challah French toast, pancakes, and other café breakfast dishes.
Fish also appears at breakfast. Current menu choices include smoked salmon and a smoked fish platter, so guests looking specifically for vegetarian food should check individual dish descriptions.
Lunch Favorites
Later in the day, the menu includes the Falafel Wrap with hummus, tahini, and vegetables, alongside a Vegan Shawarma sandwich and entrée.
Other options include salads such as the Greek Salad and Grilled Vegetable Salad, plus a falafel platter with Moroccan eggplant, babaganoush, hummus, avocado and pita.
Fish dishes remain part of the wider menu, including salmon, tilapia and cod preparations. Vegetarian and vegan diners can browse the current menu for plant-based dishes before ordering.
